Copyright and Licensing

You own the copyright for any original creative work that you make. If you are going to use other people’s photos, video, music or more, you need their verbal or written permission.

If you use someone else’s work (photos, video, music, etc.), you should consider the following:

  • Do you have to credit the creator(s) of the work?
  • Do you have to pay for the license to use the work?
  • Do you agree with the idea of sharing with others?

When creating content, consider if you would like to apply for Creative Commons Licenses of your work. These licenses are guidelines for the use of your work online. These licenses are also applied to many different online sources where you can find music, photos and video, free to use if you follow the license requirements.
