Anthony Shemayme

Anthony L Shemayme aka AnTro was born and raised in Shiprock, NM on the Navajo Nation. He graduated High School in 2007 and eventually made his move to Albuquerque, NM in 2009. Here, he immersed himself in the local hip-hop scene and felt the call to start  using his voice as a form of expression through rapping.. He then started doing performances locally and getting more involved in community efforts focused on social change and indigenous resistance. From there he started to truly embrace his identity and started the journey to reconnecting back to his culture that he wasn’t raised with.. He spent 3 and half years working at a local non-profit – La Plazita Institute engaging with middle and high school aged students through Foodcorps- connecting kids to healthy foods. He was then promoted to the position of Youth Reporting Service Coordinator working with pre-adjudicated youth involved in the juvenile court system. He has traveled to many cities in the US with his music and continues to make connections with various communities in the fight toward POC injustices. He is now the Hiyupo Alliance Coordinator at Native American Community Academy overseeing outside school time programs available to students through a social/emotional approach. He is now pushing to get his BA in Social Work and is continuing to follow the path that creator puts in front of him.
